Ames Model 1852 USN Officer
Item #: MS 1
Click on an image to enlarge
Here is a respectable Ames Model 1852 USN officer's sword identified to George E. Wise. The sword is in overall very good condition. The only flaw is the absent scabbard drag. Gilding is still in evidence at about 50% and is very rich in the recessed areas making details stand out nicely. Wise was from Massachusetts and enlisted on November 28, 1864, as an Acting Ensign. He was commissioned in the United States Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Catskill in the South Atlantic Squadron. His name is prominently engraved on the scabbard throat. With the addition of the correct drag this would be in the range of $3,000 plus in today's market
