This early style stud hook US waist belt plate has seen some rough treatment. Several bends, lots of lead loss on reverse, and even a dimple above the "S" that looks like a small calibre ball strike. I don't know which battlefield Dr. Lord recovered this plate from but it was most likely a Shenandoah Valley site like so many of his other excvavated relics. Dr. Lord was detecting during the early days when people didn't bother with camps--the battlefields were still littered with relics. This was but one of them.
