This one of four variants of the distinctive 3-piece bullet patented by Ira and Ruben Shaler in 1862. In theory the three sections would separate during flight and make one bullet equal to three lethal projectiles. This example has the cone base and wide ring at the bottom of the nose section. The nose section is held fast to the middle section, whether natural or glued I cannot determine. Nonetheless, it is a pretty specimen.
