This is a nice US cartridge box plate from the Francis A. Lord Collection. Nearly all of the plates in this collection were recovered by Dr. Lord from sites in the Shenandoah Valley in the 1950s-1960s. A number are marked with "Winchester," "Cedar Creek," etc. This plate is in overall very nice condition--typical of one excavated decades ago. Lead is solid. Face is crisp. The reverse has one intact iron hook that is bent over and the other is broken. The broken hook is behind a ding on the face that would be consistent with a "push" made by a bullet.
