This is a very good condition intact gas bag and sling with soldier's ID. Includes mask, hose, canister, record card with string, and inked identification on the reverse. The bag was carried by Joseph Spinelli, Co. H, 327th Inf., 82nd Div., AEF. This information along with his serial number is penned in large blue ink. His unit was a serious combat unit and witnessed heavy action. The 327th arrived in France in early spring 1918. They moved on line at the end of the summer making it one of the first American units to see combat at St. Mihiel. The regiment was also the first in the division to see action in the Meuse-Argonne offensive. They led the flank attack on Foret de Argonne and the attack north of Sommerance. They were also the first unit of the AEF to assault and pierce the formidable Kriemhilde Stellung. This bag witnessed history with a valorous unit!
