Froelich CS Armory Cavalry Sabre
Item #: FD 213
Click on an image to enlarge
The swords produced by Louis Froelich at his Confederate States Armory in Kenansville, North Carolina, are among the most popular Confederate edged weapons among Civil War collectors. Froelich's various CSA edged weapons exhibit the crude manufacture of a beleaguered infant nation with the ingenuity of its untrained and inexperienced craftsmen. This is a standard Kenansville Confederate cavalry sabre and scabbard. It is sturdy yet reveals primitive construction with no embellishments and brown paint to conceal its scabbard's rough finish. The weapon loosely conforms to Federal regulations for enlisted cavalry sabres but differences in details of design, construction, and finishing are remarkable and distinctive.
