Cook & Brother were English immigrants who settled in New Orleans and opened an iron works business before the War Between the States. Once the war began they switched from machinery manufacturing to weapons production. They modeled their rifle after the British Pattern 1856 rifle and sabre bayonet. They also produced musketoons and carbines also modeled after British army patterns. This excavated Cook & Brother yataghan blade sabre bayonet is serial marked "524" in the cross guard indicting early production.
Several inches of the tip just past the fuller was broken
during service and ground to match the angle of the original tip gradation. Total length is 23 1/4".
