Among his many accomplishments, Frank Lord was also a pioneer relic hunter. In the early 1950s-1960s he dug with Col. Will Gavin and fellow CIA buddy Syd Kerksis. Frank obviously spent some time in the Shenandoah Valley as a number of his relics bear tags from Cedar Creek, Winchester, etc. This waist belt plate was an early type with stud hooks. It is intact and has a mellow brown patina. It has a small crack above the "U" and some missing lead on the reverse at the same point--it appears to be a period trauma which also affected the right side of the plate inflicting a slight bend. Displays well nonetheless and is sound. Dr. Lord affixed a small tag with the single word "Winchester" on it.
