Identification disc of Adam Fraas 66th NY Inf.
Adam Fraas was an 18-year-old German immigrant when he mustered in New York City as a private in Co. A, 66th New York Infantry on Oct. 23, 1861 when the regiment was organized. He re-enlisted on Dec. 20, 1863, and served until Aug. 30, 1865.
During his service he was taken prisoner on June 30, 1862, at Savage's Station, VA, and paroled on Aug. 5, 1862, at Aiken's Landing, VA.
He was wounded at the Siege of Petersburg, VA, returned to duty and survived the war.
Pvt. Fraas' early war style brass McClellan disc bears the battles of Malvern Hill, Antietam, Fair Oaks, and Fredericksburg. He fought with the regiment at Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg. The regiment lost 231 men during its service.
