This is a beautiful pre-war gilded Virginia two-piece sword belt plate. This plate was made of a stamped tongue disc braised to a tongue bar. The disc has a smooth background behind Virtus and Tyranny, but the outer ring bearing the motto is pebbled. The edging of the disc has a tiny decorative cross-hatching. The tongue also has benchmark letters "LL" on the inner portion of the bar. The tongue portion was acquired in auction in Richmond, Virginia, and was not excavated. The wreath was found in Dalton, Georgia, and is the exact same style made for this tongue. The wreath bears the bench mark "26" and shows a smattering of gilding along its belt loop. The plate measures 58 x 81mm. Belt loop bars are both 50mm high. This is a rare variant of Virginia two-piece sword belt plates. The disc is slightly bent and can easily be adjusted to its original form by a professional. I prefer to leave relics as I find them and allow the customer the option of making any alterations.
