Helmet and Relic Group ID'd

This is a neat little group of items carried by Ralph Smith, Co D, 111th N.G. Battalion. The helmet is very good with a deep purple field cammo paint, liner, and chin strap intact. On the interior of the rim is scratched "R. Smith 111th." The group includes Smith's khaki money belt with his initials "R J S" embroidered in red, white, and blue letters. The belt and fastening clip are intact and in excellent condition. There is also a a Mess Ticket from a convalescent camp with Smith's name and serial number signed in ink with his unit information penned on the reverse. His trench mirror and leatherette case is with the group as well. Smith fashioned an ID disc out of aluminum on which he scratched his name and serial number. Tiny holes are punched on either side for a small chain. Smith was born in 1886 in Rochester, New York, and died in 1997.
