This is a beautiful imported Confederate infantry button bearing the backmark of the Southern retailing firm of Halfmann & Taylor of Montgomery, Alabama. The button was artfully designed and adorned many finely made Confederate uniforms. The mark is noted for its spelling of Alabama with a letter "d" rather than letter "a" as the final letter of the state. This non-excavated example is two-piece construction, 23mm in diameter, with the ornate old English manuscript font for the capital letter "I" decorating its face.
