Hundreds of thousands of these were made before and during the Civil War. This one was recovered years ago by Mike Miller, a Virginia digger of the 1970s-1990s. Mike found this plate in central Virginia. I'm pretty sure he unearthed this one near Bloody Angle, but can't be certain. It is rough with missing hooks and much of the lead filler in the reverse absent also. The face has a pleasing brown patina despite its overall condition.
