This Civil War holster bears the impression of a .44 calibre pistol in its leather body.  The construction is crude and almost certainly Southern in origin.  The belt loop is fastened by four rivets, the flap is secured by sliding into a loop sewn to the body.  The repair is crude and likely dates to its period of use--something a Federal cavalryman or officer would not have done.  This holster saw a lot of use and displays nicely with a Colt or a Confederate .44 revolver.
