Pocket pistols are gaining a lot of interest these days as collectors seek affordable firearms to collect.  Though not bought under military contract for issue to military personnel, pocket models were quite popular with enlistedmen early in the war.  Many officers, however, carried them as backup weapons throughout the war.  Their size and weight made them easy to accomodate and offered reliable backup protection in close encounters.

Bacon Arms made thousands of three different models of .31 caliber, five-shot pocket revolvers between 1858 and 1867.  In 1867 Bacon was bought by Hopkins & Allen who continued to produce Bacon's most popular firearms merely substituting their own maker's stamp on the weapons.

This example was one of Bacon's third model pockets bearing the Hopkins & Allen stamp on its 4-inch round barrel.  Serial number is 204 of approximately only 1,000 produced.  Some bluing remains on the visible five-panel cylinder scenes.  Weapon is functional and mechanism is tight.  Grips are excellent.  Their is some chipping between the nipples, but the integrity of the weapon was not compromised.

The gun came with a small Colt eagle flask.  The flask is still sound but one side of the flask is pitted and doesn't display as well as the other.
