The German's have always had a flair for dramatic militaria especially evident in their uniforms. Even their utilitarian cold weather gear had a snappy look to it. The feldmutz, or field cap, was an effective yet handsome piece of headgear. Made of wool with stiff cloth brim the cap featured an optional fold-down layer for wrapping around the neck and buttoning under the chin in extreme weather. This one, with officer's silver piping, features a satin / silk camouflage lining made of Italian parachute silk! I've never seen this before. I believe this was a tailored piece, most likely made in Italy for a German officer. The quality is exceptional and the condition is excellent. No mothing, rips, tears, or repairs. Brought home by a veteran as a war trophy.
